Each May, The Detroit News partners with Sparky Anderson’s CATCH charity for children to recognize the extraordinary accomplishments of 24 Michigan High School seniors in a variety of academic categories. Participating sponsors provide financial support for CATCH and the student in the form of scholarship assistance named after the sponsor. This program not only provides scholarship assistance to 24 outstanding Michigan high school graduates but significantly assists the mission of CATCH by funding items and services that help improve the quality of life for sick and economically disadvantaged pediatric patients at Children’s Hospital of Michigan and Henry Ford Hospital.

Since 1986, The Detroit News has recognized the state’s outstanding high school graduates in a variety of academic categories. Also included is a special Against All Odds category that rewards hard-working, determined students who have overcome major obstacles while achieving their high school education. CATCH and The News became partners in this program in 2003.

In the past 22 years, this event has raised $1.17 million for CATCH and provided $492,500 in college scholarship assistance for 493 high school seniors.

Each year, we seek $3,500 sponsors for this program, which includes logo recognition in The Detroit News in an ad with the student you are sponsoring, logo with sponsored student in a special section in The Detroit News in another edition, the opportunity to host your student in a recognition dinner at The Henry Hotel in Dearborn on Thursday, May 15 and logo in the dinner program book and student sponsor board.
