CATCH Trustees and Outstanding Graduate Awards Co-Chairs Nolan Finley, Editorial Page Editor of The Detroit News and Sandy Kuohn, Managing Director of Talmer Bank & Trust.

For the past 31 years, The Detroit News has celebrated the amazing accomplishments of high school seniors in the state of Michigan through its OutstaSponsor Boardnding Graduate Awards program. Since 2003, CATCH has partnered with The News in this program and has worked with many businesses and foundations in the region to support the graduates and the sick, injured and needy pediatric patients who benefit from CATCH funds. Each year since, our sponsors make a financial contribution to this program, where $1,000 are earmarked for a scholarship for the student they sponsor and the rest goes to support CATCH.

Everyone wins!

The students selected pass a rigorous blind screening process supervised by a select panel of educators and professionals from throughout the state. Students earn recognition in the categories of arts, athletics, health, journalism, mathematics, science, vocational education, world studies and a special “against all odds” category.

It is truly amazing to listen to the accomplishments of each student. And it’s not just astronomical grade point averages. These students excel in the classroom, for sure. But when you hear about all of the other extracurricular activities they are involved in, and number of honors and awards they have received and the countless hours of volunteerism they put it, it is easy to see why they have been named Outstanding Grads!

Congratulations to the 24 amazing seniors from across the state who were honored May 26  at The Dearborn Inn. And special thanks to Event Sponsor The Detroit News, Presenting Sponsor Richard and Jane Manoogian Foundation, and Student Sponsors AAA Life Insurance Company, Arrow Strategies, Cambridge Consulting Group, Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation, Detroit Lions, Domino’s, DTE Energy Foundation, Fifth Third Bank, Greektown Casino-Hotel, Henry Ford Health System, Michigan.Com, OneStream Software, Penske Automotive, The Skillman Foundation, Strategic Staffing Solutions and Talmer Bank & Trust.
